New Restaurants
Local Folks - in Slades Corners - most reasonable prices of any restaurant we stop at. Restaurant discovered and route designed by Geoff. This is a very enjoyable route to ride
Hazel's in Hebron - Small town upscale - Cinnamon Bun French Toast supplies enough calories to ride for 3 more hours
Deb's Country Café in Darien- Similar to the old Linda's in Wilmot. We stopped here in September on a replacement ride for the Cornfest ride which was rained out.
Bob Cronsell's many talents
Airplane/Airliner mechanic
Pilot
Century Rider
Suburban Cowboy as evidenced when he took his road bike off road to help round up some wayward donkeys.
Railroad Dispatcher - our group was stopped by a train parked across the road in Darien. Bob got the attention of the railroad people. The train pulled ahead, let us pass, and then backed up across the road again!
Best road repair/rebuild
Lawrence and Oak Grove Rds. from Milky Way Park to Wis. State Line
Kemman Rd. South of VanderCarr
Worst road resurface/repair
Kemman Rd north of VanderCarr - This was better for cycling before they did any work.
Favorite Descent
McDonald Rd west of Lake Geneva
Best "speed " road
Riding east on Altenberg Rd with a 20mph tailwind
Most tedious road to ride
Hospital Rd from Hwy 36 to Weeks Rd. trends uphill with usual headwind
My favorite roads
Towline Rd east of Lake Geneva, Berndt Rd, Cranberry Rd, Back Rd
Most Requested route
Snake Rd
Closest deer encounter
Descending Fair Oaks Rd when deer darted across road
Top example of MCBC camaraderie
Mary Lou, Mary W, Barbara H, Lauren B- Happily enjoyed the "more scenic" ride to Darien, skipped the restaurant and almost ecstatically reported their ride covered 46 miles
Largest flock of turkeys
150-200 on Town Hall Rd north of Walworth. This was not on an MCBC ride but it is a pretty impressive sight to see that many turkeys literally covering a corn field.
